$1,000 sounds like a big number when you haven’t been paid for a single video yet. So let’s make it smaller.
At beginner UGC rates ($150 to $300 per video), $1,000 is four videos at $250, or five at $200. It’s not a viral moment and it’s not a big following. It’s four or five videos for brands that need content.
Here’s how to get there.
1. Make three spec videos. A spec video is a practice video for a product you already own, made as if a brand hired you. Three of them is your starter portfolio. You don’t need gear: a window, a clean counter and a steady phone are enough.
2. Put them somewhere a brand can see them. One simple page with your three videos, what you make (unboxings, demos, testimonials) and how to reach you. Brands decide in seconds, so make it easy.
3. Be findable. Add “UGC creator” to your bio. Post UGC-style videos on your own page so brands scrolling for creators see the work. Join UGC marketplaces like JoinBrands or Insense, where brands post open briefs and creators apply.
4. Quote your rate and don’t flinch. Start at $150 to $300 per video. What not to do: drop to $50 to “get your foot in the door.” The door you walk through at $50 stays at $50.
5. Turn one client into a repeat client. This is the fastest route to $1,000. A brand that liked your first video will usually need more. Offer a three-video package. Three videos at $250 is $750 from one yes, and your first thousand is one more video away.
